Application for the Master Biomedical Engineering

Thank you for your interest in the Master's degree program Biomedical Engineering of our KIT department! Admission to the program is restricted. Applicants who meet the admission requirements will be assigned a ranking place based on their course content and their overall grade in the Bachelor's program. The course is taught in English. English language skills must therefore be demonstrated.

Admission requirements*
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields
     
    • Medical or biomedical engineering
    • Electrical engineering and information technology
    • Mechatronics
    • Mechanical engineering
    • Computer science
    • Physics
    • Chemistry
    • Biology
    • Mathematics
  • Required minimum knowledge in the following areas:
     
    • Advanced mathematics: 12 LP
    • Information Technology: 12 LP
  • Sufficient knowledge of the English language. In addition to the language certificates listed in the KIT admission and enrollment regulations, alternative certificates may also be accepted in individual cases, in particular:
     
    • a degree certificate from an English-language degree program
    • a university entrance qualification from institutions with English as the language of instruction
    • a Bachelor's thesis written in English
  • International applicants: If you earned your bachelor’s degree in a country that is not part of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and is not a signatory to the Lisbon Convention, you must submit a test with your application. This must be either the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE, test paper Biomedical Engineering) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Please confirm with the test provider that the GRE test is available for KIT, using institution code 6299. The following scores must be achieved on the GRE:
     
    •     Verbal Reasoning: at least 151 points
    •     Quantitative Reasoning: at least 164 points
    •     Analytical Writing: at least 4 points

 

The admission requirements are checked in a first step on the basis of the uploaded documents. A transcript and a module handbook or similar containing the content and workload for each area (i.e. credit points/credits) are required to check the minimum knowledge.

For the ranking list a maximum of 147 points will be awarded based on the course content and the overall grade of the Bachelor's degree. Applicants who meet the minimum knowledge requirements can receive points for their coursework and examinations as follows (1 CP = 1 point):
 

  • Biomedical Engineering: max. 24 CP
  • Mathematics: max. 28 CP
  • Information technology: max. 23 CP
  • Electrical engineering: max. 22 CP
     

Applicants who meet the minimum knowledge requirements can earn up to 50 additional points with an excellent grade.
